Read our story…
In 2013, nearly 9,900 children entered foster care in the state of Ohio. Many of these children came into care on a moment’s notice, only having time to “pack” a few precious belongings. Although many children are able to return to family, others end up bouncing between foster homes – sometimes several times. This requires repeatedly packing their things to take with them to their new “home.” Unfortunately, the only way to transport their possessions is in trash bags or boxes, the only “luggage” available to our State’s precious youth.
Imagine having to transport your most prized possessions – your only mementos of home – in a bag generally intended for garbage. You already feel like you stand out; like everyone knows you do not belong. You feel as though there is a giant spotlight shining down on you as it is. Yet, there you are, standing next to a pile of trash bags and some old, dented boxes desperately wishing you could fit in. While you are grateful for the opportunities that are now available to you, there are so many things you wish you had.
Like a suitcase.
That trusty old luggage stashed away in dusty basements and thrown on conveyor belts in baggage claim. That rolling bag so many people complain about carting through the airport while traveling to faraway lands for rest and relaxation. Our foster children yearn for that trusty duffel. The hard-shelled suitcase. Anything but the black, 40 gallon garbage bag. These children are not trash; they’re precious blessings and deserve to be proud of something. Let us do our part providing Trunks for Tots.
Won’t you provide your support?
Your t-shirt purchase can help provide these children with proper storage for life’s few treasures afforded them. Something so simple that most of us take for granted, luggage would mean so much to these children. The suitcases you fund are important. But, most of all, you are making a shameful situation far less so.
One of the focuses of Dot’s Tots Foundation is to provide support to families providing foster care. Altruistically, most foster parents are sacrificing their own wants to provide for less fortunate children. Dot’s Tots Foundation can help in alleviating the burden on these noble individuals. 75 t-shirts will buy 15 suitcases. The campaign starts now!
