2013 Boston Marathon
April 15 2:50 pm
From our television sets, it was a beautiful April Monday, Marathon Monday as it is known to many. We could only imagine the excitement, the wonder, and the nervousness of all the Boston Marathon runners that day. We had heard stories of the special events, the runners only bus ride to the start line, Heartbreak Hill, and Boylston Street. Even as a spectator from afar, we could feel the anticipation of the race in our hearts. Yet, we would have never anticipated the tragedy that occurred on this day.
The sport of running is close to our hearts here at I Heart Garments. Our founder has run 13 marathons and our co-founder ran her first half marathon December, 2012. We are surrounded by runners that are our family, friends, colleagues and coworkers and the camaraderie amongst these groups is contagious. The spirit of pushing the human body to achieve health, fitness and goals is uplifting, courageous and inspiring. Yet when we heard the news of the Boston Marathon bombings, we were confused, saddened and worried. We had friends running in the race-a race full of runners who surely had sacrificed so much to qualify, train and travel to run in this elite race. Our first thoughts were to our friends that were there, wondering if they were okay. After, our thoughts went to those who were injured from the blasts, wondering what had happened, if they were going to be okay, how many were hurt, and were there any children. Later, our thoughts went to those responsible for the devastation and the terror all of those at the scene must have felt. As television spectators, we, like so many of you, prayed for those at the finish line, the injured, the families affected and our entire nation. Once we had time to digest what had happened, we prayed for each and every runner in the Boston Marathon-for the hopes and dreams of running this magnificent race and how they will always be tied to tragedy. The stories of the injured and of the three who died began to be told and along with them, we knew that stories of kindness, benevolence and perseverance would eventually be shared as well.
Like so many of you, we were deeply affected by this tragic event. Feeling helpless, we searched for a way to make an impact and send a message of perseverance and strength to all those influenced in some way or another by the marathon bombings. We have partnered with our local friends at Traxler Tees to offer this design and give back to those in need. Our campaigns have the told the stories of hope and perseverance for organizations doing good in communities across the world. We are grateful to be able to share the same message for Martin Richard, Krystle Campbell, Lingzi Lu and so many others who were injured. Help us continue to keep their stories alive and come together as an army of supporters for Boston. And for all the runners out there, let’s run with strength and spirit for ourselves and each other. Boston will be back, stronger than ever.
Campaign Proceeds: $8.00 per garment sold will be donated to support the victims via “The One Fund.” onefundboston.org
Because of this unexpected horrific event, we will be altering our campaign and shipping policy, a bit, for this campaign: The “Hugs for Boston” campaign will run for a duration of 56 days, which will be 4 even two-week manufacture and shipping periods. The 4 periods will run as follows:
04/23/13 to 05/07/13, 05/07/13 to 05/21/13, 05/21/13 to 06/04/13, and 06/04/13 to 06/18/13. After each period we will manufacture and ship so expect your “HEART-FELT” garment on your doorstep 7-10 days after the period in which you supported.
Thanks for all your support, this will only make BOSTON STRONGER.
We HEART you. LIVE.BE.SHARE.LOVE
